in-cosmetics Asia 2026: A Sensory Brief for Skincare Buyers

Ahead of in-cosmetics Asia 2026, prepare a skincare sensory brief covering scent, texture, sample traceability and supplier follow-up questions.

With in-cosmetics Asia scheduled for 3–5 November 2026 at BITEC in Bangkok, skincare buyers have a reason to prepare a more specific sensory development brief. In its 27 August announcement, the organiser outlined a new Fragrance Zone, including a Scent Bar and the event's first Fragrance Awards. It also identified sensory experience as a topic in the Formulation Lab programme.

The current official Fragrance Zone page, checked on 8 October, confirms that the awards are scheduled for 3 November. These are upcoming event activities, rather than completed results. For private label skincare teams, our interpretation is practical: use the programme to sharpen supplier questions before requesting samples.

Turn a sensory preference into a product brief

A phrase such as “premium feel” leaves too much room for interpretation. Before approaching a supplier, describe the product format, intended user, application routine and destination market. Then specify what the user should notice: easy spreading, a particular finish, limited residual tack, or a defined scent intensity.

Decide whether fragrance belongs in the concept at all. A fragrance-free direction, a lightly scented lotion and a strongly scented body product need different briefs. None of those choices, on its own, establishes safety, suitability for every user or a functional skin benefit. Treat scent as a design decision to evaluate alongside the rest of the formula.

Compare samples under the same conditions

Our suggested buyer workflow is to give each sample a code and use a simple evaluation sheet. Record the amount applied, evaluation timing and testing conditions. Ask evaluators to describe spreading, finish, residue and scent separately, so that enthusiasm for one feature does not obscure a concern about another.

Where practical, compare coded samples without revealing the supplier or concept name. Record preferences as preferences. A panel's liking for a texture cannot establish a moisturising, anti-ageing or other performance claim. If a proposed claim matters to the launch, ask what evidence supports that claim for the actual finished formula.

Keep the formula and packaging versions connected

A promising demonstration should lead to a traceable sample request. Ask the supplier to identify the formula version, fragrance version, sample batch and proposed packaging. Keep those identifiers with evaluation notes, rather than approving a concept name alone.

Discuss which stability and packaging compatibility checks are relevant to the selected formula and intended conditions of use. A scent or texture change may require another evaluation. Buyers should also request the ingredient and fragrance documentation needed for their destination-market review. Confirm requirements with the responsible specialists before approving artwork; this article does not set a market-specific compliance checklist.

Leave each supplier discussion with a clear next step

Whether the conversation takes place at the exhibition or remotely, send the same brief to each shortlisted supplier. Useful follow-up questions include:

  • Which sample matches the requested format, finish and fragrance direction?
  • Which formula and packaging versions will be used for the next evaluation?
  • Which documents and test results are available, and what remains to be checked?
  • What information is still needed before project-specific commercial terms can be confirmed?

A sensory showcase can help a buyer discover options. The purchasing decision still needs a defined sample, documented evaluation and agreement on the next development step.

For a project discussion, review the Lanthome Skincare product range and send your product brief, including format, target market, packaging direction and evaluation priorities.
